ALTERNATE CONSTRUCTIONS
Roberts also offers constructions from Varial Surf Technology and XTR which are specialty foam and glass shops whose blanks and glassing details have varying properties and advantages above and beyond traditional Poly boards.
VARIAL
Varial boards are constructed with blanks made from foam likened to the advanced materials used in fighter jets and rocket ships. Varial Foam is lighter and stronger than traditional PU foam. Because of its strength and responsive flex, it doesn’t require any type of stringer. Varial Foam blanks do not absorb water, are highly dent resistant, can be glassed in poly or epoxy resin, and are 100% UV resistant. Also exclusive to Varial Surf Technology is their patent-pending glassing method, Infused Glass. Similar to how racing boat hulls are made but designed specifically for surfboards, Varial has created a vacuum bagging process that brings engineered performance to to surfing. XTR
XTR boards are constructed from Extruded Polystrene (XPS) foam blanks and environmental friendly epoxy resins. Unlike Poly and EPS, XPS foam does not absorb water and it has superior strength and flex characterists which makes it excellent for high performance boards. XTR also offers several levels of construction through the use of carbon and foam densities for varying flex patterns and strengths to accommodate desired ride characteristics for the size of the rider and type of waves.
