FIND YOUR IDEAL SURFBOARD VOLUME
Guild Factor is a Tool to start out or dial in your path to finding the Perfect Surfboard.
(GF is the Ratio of Surfboard Volume to your Body Weight, GF = Liters/LB or Liters/KG)
1) On the graph to the right (or bottom on mobile), slide the left hand bar to your body weight.
2) Decide where you fit in the GF Shortboard Ratios below:
If you are surfing in a wetsuit most of the time or on soft waves consider using the higher end of your range.
3) Slide the right hand bar so that the Red Dot is on your Preferred GF Ratio.
All done! Inside the box on the lower right hand corner of the graph is YOUR Ideal Volume. Ideal Volume has a range of +/- 0.5 Liters so it is not an exact end all number but it is the best place to start or be when accounting for your ability, fitness, age and wave type.
On our surfboard model pages, we have charts showing volumes for our standard dimensions. We also have weight recommendations based on those volumes. For the Advanced column we used a GF of .36, for Intermediate we used .42 and for Novice we used .50 to arrive at those weights. Some of our models like a few of the Grovelers are designed to be ridden with more than your normal volume. For those we use higher GFs to suggest a size to weight ratio based on the goals of the model's design. You'll find that a lot of the time stock dimensions and the corresponding volume will work perfectly for you. If a suggested board based on its volume seems too short or too long or your needs don't align with a GF Ratio, we can always adjust your board dimensions in a custom order to match your proportions and preferences.
